In 1998, at only twenty-seven years old, Roberto Enríquez was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, an autoimmune illness that would mark his life. From that moment of shock was born De cuerpo presente, a brief and urgent text that marked his debut as a writer, then accompanied by photographs by Toya Legido. The first edition was published by Ediciones La Uña Rota in the form of a small stapled booklet (15 x 10 cm, 700 copies), and it sold out quickly. This new edition faithfully reproduces that original layout.

Twenty-seven years later, under the name Bob Pop and at fifty-three years old, the author returns to the same title with an expanded and revised proposal. As a B-side, this second version of De cuerpo presente establishes a dialogue between the original poems from 1998 and new texts written from the experience of the illness in its current stage. The work includes portraits made expressly for this edition by Mauricio Rétiz, the author’s partner.

A poetry collection written in two times and one single body, where past and present intertwine to explore the impact of the diagnosis, the transformation of the body, and the persistence of the poetic gaze.

“It will be your reading that makes me future.” – Bob Pop

About the author

Bob Pop (pseudonym of Roberto Enríquez Higueras, Madrid, 1971) is a writer, columnist, and communicator. He has worked as a cultural critic in press, radio, and television, and is known for his participation in programs such as Late Motiv or La Tuerka, as well as for the autobiographical series Maricón perdido (2021), of which he was creator and screenwriter. His work combines a critical outlook with a personal and political sensitivity, exploring themes such as identity, the body, illness, and desire. In recent years, his writing has taken on a more introspective tone linked to his life experience with multiple sclerosis.
