Oral (Maxi-single 12" Mother of Pearl)
Oral is an unexpected collaboration between Björk and Rosalía that brings together two generations of experimental pop. The song originates from a demo Björk recorded in the late nineties that remained unreleased for decades, until the Icelandic artist decided to revive and reinterpret it with Rosalía. The result is a track that sounds like a lost classic and, at the same time, a contemporary statement, where both voices intertwine between English and Spanish.
Musically, Oral combines tense string arrangements, electronic beats, and a very physical rhythmic pulse, at times close to club music. The production maintains Björk’s characteristic emotional drama and blends it with Rosalía’s vocal sensitivity and flamenco phrasing. This 12" translucent pearl-effect vinyl release also includes a remix by Olof Dreijer (The Knife), which takes the track into a more minimalist and hypnotic territory, designed for the dance floor.
Beyond the music, this single serves as a political and ecological manifesto. Björk, Rosalía, and their labels have waived commissions and royalties so that 100% of the profits go to AEGIS, the organization founded by Björk that fights against intensive salmon farming in Iceland and defends marine ecosystems. In this way, each copy of Oral not only documents a unique creative encounter but is directly linked to an urgent environmental cause.
