This is a sacred text. This book contains poems of magic and ceremonies ―spells and chants―, as well as others that use symbol and intuition to offer a different account of what preceded us. That other reality that may be known but has not yet been written down, that is intuited to exist but still to be created. Poems from a tradition that speaks to us about the possibility of tenderness and vulnerability, and that offers us a message expressed both with words and with the body. The tradition to which Conjuros y cantos belongs appeals to the expression of lesbian desire, to history ―in its depth of the past, in its will of the narrative― of love between women, to the encounters and connections between the pagan and the sacred, to a collective space of experience and pleasure.
Sara Torres opened with Conjuros y cantos a cycle of writing that she later completed with Phantasmagoria and El ritual del baño, both published by La Bella Varsovia; this edition revised by the author offers a definitive version ―and vision― of this work, which she considers “the most daring and the most self-assured.” A book with which she affirmed the birth of her own world, also developed in her narrative work: that of Sara Torres, whose hypnotic and performative language is sought in its genealogy, illuminating ―an art of magic― her own canon.
